Trulieve Contributes $1 Million to Florida Recreational Cannabis Campaign
Trulieve, a prominent medical cannabis company, has added $1 million to a campaign aiming to legalize recreational cannabis in Florida via a constitutional amendment. According to a recently filed finance report, this contribution brings Trulieve’s total support to $55.39 million in cash and in-kind contributions for the Smart & Safe Florida political committee, which is spearheading the legalization efforts.
Campaign Finances
The $1 million from Trulieve accounted for nearly all the money raised by the committee during the reporting period of June 29 through July 5. During this period, the committee spent almost $1.6 million and had approximately $12.45 million in cash on hand, as reported on the state Division of Elections website.
Amendment 3 Overview
The proposed initiative, appearing on the ballot as Amendment 3, seeks to allow adults aged 21
and older to possess, purchase, or use marijuana products and accessories for non-medical personal consumption through smoking, ingestion, or other means.
Historical Context
In 2016, Florida voters passed a constitutional amendment permitting medical marijuana use. The current campaign aims to expand this legalization to include recreational use.
