Multi-Agency Task Force Targets Illegal Cannabis and Psilocybin Sales Across Orange County

On Tuesday, April 1, law enforcement officers seized a staggering amount of illegal substances—more than 450 pounds of cannabis and over 50 pounds of psilocybin mushroom products—from a warehouse in Costa Mesa, California. The operation was spearheaded by the Laguna Beach Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET), in collaboration with the California Department of Cannabis Control, the California Tax and Fee Assessment, and the Laguna Beach Police Detective Bureau.

Warehouse Raid Linked to Prior Investigation at Laguna Beach Smoke Shop

Authorities confirmed the warehouse search stemmed from an ongoing investigation launched after a previous raid at the Cinder Box Smoke Shop in Laguna Beach on January 27. That earlier operation, prompted by a tip from a community member, revealed 3.8 pounds of cannabis and approximately half a pound of psilocybin being illegally sold at 640 South Coast Highway.

Authorities Recover Cannabis Buds, THC Edibles, and Psilocybin-Infused Products

In the April 1 warehouse raid, law enforcement recovered an extensive variety of controlled substances. These included:

Loose cannabis flower

THC concentrates

Cannabis-infused edibles

Psilocybin-infused chocolate bars

Microdose candies

Whole psilocybin mushrooms

According to the police report, approximately 451 pounds of cannabis and 54 pounds of psilocybin mushroom products were seized in total.

Multiple Suspects Detained; Charges Pending as Investigation Continues

Law enforcement officers on the scene detained and identified several suspects believed to be involved in the illegal operation. While no arrests have yet been confirmed, police say charges are expected as the case moves forward. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
