NYC’s Largest Drug Bust Uncovers $10 Million in Illegal Cannabis Products in the Bronx
Nearly $10 million worth of narcotics were seized in the Bronx in what the NYPD said was its most significant drug bust to date involving illegal cannabis products. Police discovered the illegal drug operation on Timpson Place in the Mott Haven section following community complaints about illegal marijuana sales.
Unregulated and Dangerous Products Seized
Mayor Eric Adams, the New York City Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection were on the scene. Officials said the unregulated products, some packaged as candies and chocolates, were being distributed throughout the community.
“We found cannabis flower, pre-rolls, mushroom hallucinogens, candies, chocolates, and kids’ packaging,” said NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda.
Community Relief After Years of Suspicion
Neighbors said they had sensed suspicious activity for two years. Aileen Rivera noted unusual packages, while another resident, Sandy, described long lines and double-parked cars.
Citywide Drug Enforcement Operation
The Timpson Place bust is part of Operation Padlock to Protect, a citywide enforcement initiative. Last week, city officials seized cannabis products worth an estimated $1 million in the Bronx. The investigation along East Tremont Avenue led to the seizure of 176 pounds of cannabis flower and other THC products.
Community Involvement Encouraged
The NYPD has encouraged New Yorkers to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. More drug busts are expected in the coming weeks, according to Fabien Levy, Adams’ deputy mayor for communications.
Residents expressed relief at the shutdown and hope similar operations don’t reappear. “It’s good that it’s gone, so let’s keep it out,” said Norma Otero.
