$8.4 Million in Illegal Cannabis, Hallucinogenic Mushrooms Seized in Major Westminster Drug Bust
Westminster, CA — A 49-year-old man has been arrested after authorities dismantled an illegal cannabis delivery service in Westminster earlier this month, seizing an estimated $8.4 million worth of unlicensed marijuana products along with hundreds of pounds of illicit hallucinogenic mushrooms, officials announced Friday.
The California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) revealed that Kung Chau, a Westminster resident, was arrested on May 2 on suspicion of possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession for sale of marijuana.
The enforcement action—described as a significant crackdown on unlicensed operators—resulted in a massive seizure of contraband, including:
- 1,505 pounds of illegal cannabis flower
- 351 pounds of cannabis concentrate
- 3,891 pounds of unlicensed vape cartridges
- 600 pounds of illegal cannabis edibles
- 643 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, with an estimated value of $44,000
Authorities said the arrest and seizure were the culmination of a coordinated investigation aimed at shutting down the illegal delivery service, which was operating without a license and distributing unregulated substances throughout the area.
It addresses the vital need to protect communities from unlicensed cannabis operators who may also be distributing unregulated and untested substances like hallucinogenic mushrooms.”
The case highlights the continued efforts by local and state agencies to enforce cannabis regulations and crack down on illegal operations that pose a public health and safety risk.
