New State-Licensed Cannabis Dispensary Opens on 8th Avenue Near Times Square
Celebrating Legal Cannabis Today is the grand opening of Nicklz, a state-licensed cannabis dispensary located on 8th Avenue near 48th Street, close to Times Square. Only state-approved and certified cannabis products will be carried by Nicklz, ensuring quality and safety for its customers.
Assistance from Social Equity Fund Nicklz’s owner has been funded by the New York Cannabis Social Equity Investment Fund, which is a public-private fund dedicated to promoting opportunities for those affected by the criminal justice system who hold a state Office of Cannabis Management dispensary license.
Crackdown on Unlicensed Shops Nicklz’ opening, though, is coming into a city that, in the past week alone, has been taking actions to close illegal weed shops that are flooding the market. These unlicensed shops pose economic and safety risks by selling non-regulated products. Many have closed, and owners were fined just last week to protect state-licensed sellers.
Addressing Unregulated Products Illegal cannabis shops often sell products of unknown origin and use colorful packaging that can attract children. In contrast, Nicklz supports compliance with strict regulations; it is a secure and legal alternative for consumers.
Initiative to Save the Licensed Seller Nicklz is located directly across the street from an illegal weed dealer who sells cheaper, unregulated products. Police have shut it down and padlocked a new initiative to safeguard licensed cannabis sellers like Nicklz.
Nicklz’s launch is another stride toward a legal, regulated sale of cannabis in New York City with a focus on consumer safety and social equity within the industry.
