Nearly One-Third of Adults Report Cannabis Use in the Past Year

A recent University of Michigan survey reveals that nearly one-third of adults aged 35 to 50 consumed cannabis in the past year. The data shows that 29 percent of respondents reported yearly cannabis use, with 19 percent acknowledging use within the past 30 days. Additionally, 8 percent of those surveyed said they use cannabis daily.

Middle-Aged and Older Adults Embrace Cannabis

The findings highlight a growing trend of cannabis use among middle-aged and older adults. Other studies corroborate this increase, indicating a steady rise in consumption within these age groups. Furthermore, over 80 percent of adults aged 55 to 65 have tried cannabis at least once in their lifetimes.

Cultural Shift in Cannabis Consumption

Paul Armentano, Deputy Director of NORML, emphasized that cannabis has been deeply ingrained in American culture for decades and remains popular among older demographics. He called for cannabis laws to align with these longstanding patterns of use.

This increase in cannabis consumption among middle-aged and older adults reflects a broader acceptance of cannabis in society, underscoring the need for evolving regulations.
